How in hospitals we can save 3 times the lives lost each year on the roads

Why you’re 3 times more likely to die from an avoidable death in hospital than die on the roads

In a 12m period in our UK partner hospitals alone, we saw an improvement in avoidable deaths of 455.  Extrapolating that to just NHS hospitals as a whole and comparing to the numbers that die on the roads and using our system would save 3x the number of road deaths.

That’s not a one-off.  That would be similar year in and year out.

So why isn’t it happening more widely?

Managers and boards must, under the oath they swear, corporate governance, clinical governance and to show appropriate scrutiny, look at what they are measuring.  So they will do the right thing when they realise that measuring mortality against national averages is not enough.

Our risk-adjusted approach is validated in 11 countries, across 120m records from 46 countries and in numerous studies and hospitals.

The managers/boards simply don’t know about us yet (tell them), think they can’t measure to this sensitivity (they can with us), think they can find problems (not if you’re chasing false positives), don’t know we can help them find root-causes and solutions and then maybe imagine we’d be expensive.

Hospitals make direct savings of up to 30-40x our cost. #nobrainer #patientsafety #mortality #nhs
